We are proud of all the Superior Jams and Splendid Chutneys that make their way out of our front door daily. They are all produced in this 1850s farmhouse in Columbia County in New York State.
In 1981, we did not have a Grand Plan, but Beth Linskey, the founder and owner of Beth’s Farm Kitchen, did have a mini plan—to make jams, and some chutneys, from local fruit and sell them in the Greenmarket in New York City. In 1976, Barry Benepe and Bob Lewis created the Greenmarket with the notion that in the future producing local food and preserving farmland would be important. Who knew how right they would be? Greenmarkets are now popular—and ever-growing sources for food—and the term “locally grown” pulls consumers, in great numbers, to these markets.
